Ellen Thomas’ body of work extends from television to film, from theatre to voiceover; She may be most well known as Claudette Hubbard in Eastenders, for which she was nominated Best Villain in The Soap Awards. She has appeared in two series of Mount Pleasant and three series of the comedy series Rev.
She also appeared in Teachers as Liz the school secretary, Lenny Henry In Pieces and his Montrose winning Christmas Special. Other regular roles include Cardiac Arrest, and leading roles in London Bridge, Holding On and The Jury. Ellen also appeared in Buried Treasure which won the 2002 BAFTA Audience Award.
Her film career has yielded roles in Mrs Harris Goes to Paris, Golden Years, Love Punch, It’s A Lot, Ashes, Ryan and Ronnie, Jonny English 2 Clubbed, Breaking and Entering directed by Anthony Minghella, Risk Addiction, South West Nine, Michael Winterbottom’s Wonderland, Some Voices, and The Secret Laughter Of Women.
Ellen’s stage career has brought her to theaters all over the world, including The Almeida (where she worked with director Maya Angelou on The Rainbow Shawl), The National Theatre, the Soho Theatre, The Royal Court, and The Bristol Old Vic.
Her incredible voice can be heard as Ambessa Medarda, the powerful Noxian General in Netflix’s award winning Arcane. She also narrates one of Time Magazine’s “Best Crime novels of 2025 so far”, ‘The Search for Othella Savage’ by Foday Mannah.
Ellen is also a twice Nominated Best Actress in the EMMA Awards, and nominated as Best Actress by Screen Nation and The Black Media Awards.
